Why this page exists

Most "links" pages on small business websites are vestigial — a leftover from an era when reciprocal linking still mattered for search rankings and nobody had quite got round to deleting them. This one is different. The links below are sites we genuinely use day-to-day or recommend without hesitation: the affiliate networks our clients' platforms pull data from, the regulators whose rules we have to design around, and the standards bodies whose specifications underpin everything we ship. If you are researching a comparison-site project, this page is a more efficient starting point than a generic web search.

We do not accept paid placements here, and we do not run an SEO link-exchange scheme. If we have linked to a site, it is because we think a serious reader of this site will benefit from looking at it.

What makes a good comparison-site reference site

Three traits, in our experience. Primary sources over secondary commentary — the regulator's own guidance is almost always clearer and more current than a blog post about it, and the network's own developer documentation is more accurate than a third-party tutorial. Specification-grade detail — when you are building real software, the difference between a "general overview of GDPR" and the actual statutory instrument is the difference between guessing and knowing. Updated this year, not five years ago — the affiliate landscape, the regulatory landscape and the technical standards landscape all move fast enough that a page from 2019 is usually misleading by 2026 even when it is not actually wrong.

Every link on this page meets all three of those tests at the time of writing. We re-check the list once a year and remove anything that has gone stale.

Reading list for first-time clients

If you are commissioning your first comparison site and want to be a better-informed buyer, three reading paths are worth a couple of hours each. The ICO's small-business GDPR guidance is the cheapest possible insurance against compliance surprises late in a project. Awin's "publisher onboarding" documentation gives a realistic picture of how affiliate revenue actually flows in practice rather than how marketing decks present it. And web.dev's Core Web Vitals reference will tell you what "fast enough for Google" really means in measurable, testable terms — useful both for evaluating bids from competing developers and for sense-checking what we tell you during a project.

A note on broken links

We re-check the destinations on this page roughly every six months and remove or replace anything that has gone offline, been redirected to a generic landing page, or visibly fallen out of date. If you find a broken link or a page whose contents have changed substantially since we linked to it, we would genuinely like to know — drop us a line through the contact page and we will fix the entry within a couple of working days. The same applies if you think there is an obviously useful UK reference site for comparison work that we have missed: we would rather have a short list of genuinely useful links than a long list of mediocre ones, but the bar is quality, not gatekeeping.
